Choosing a Niche Market

Choosing a niche market is an important part of your internet marketing strategy. A niche is a smaller segment of a larger market. Building a site or blog with content that's focused on your niche will help you reach people who are interested in buying some of the products or services that are associated with your niche.

Choosing a niche market in health and fitness is very competitive. Look for a smaller niche within that niche that you'll be able to serve with the content and products your visitors are searching for.

The tighter the niche and the more focused your content, the more likely they are to purchase your products because they see you as an expert in that niche.

Keep in mind that people who are passionate about their hobbies are more willing to spend money than those people who only have a casual interest.

For example, an outdoorsman who is always camping, hiking and going on eco-adventure vacations would be more likely to spend money on equipment that will improve their camping experience than someone who likes to go camping occasionally with friends.

You can still capture both markets with your content and products but if you become the website that the “professionals” swear by, you are more likely to be on top of the search engines because you will be considered an "authority" site.

People with only a casual interest will find your website at the top of the search engines when they need something for their occasional camping trip.

Doing Market Research

Once you decide on your niche, do research about your potential market to find out what products they are buying.

Start with the 2 best sources for market research: Ebay and Amazon. If you haven’t already, create an account with Ebay and take a look at the “Hot List” for items that
are in demand.

Keep an eye on what's popular in the media and you may find a niche that you will enjoy developing such as race cars, movie memorabilia or quilting.

Remember, the smaller, the better, when building your niche. Avoid Get Rich Quick schemes that promise the world and charge a lot to do it but don’t deliver.

Getting Your Niche Site Online

Once you've figured out your niche, you'll have to buy a domain name and start building your site or blog. A couple of tips to remember is to choose a domain name that has a couple of your keywords included. Also, don't use hyphens in your domain name.

You can build a simple one-page site if you have a specific product you want to sell. You can also use Wordpress to build a niche blog which is what many beginners use. It's free and easily installed so you can concentrate on marketing rather than designing a website.
