Increase Website Traffic
Methods to increase website traffic fall under 2 major categories: paid and unpaid. In my
experience, unpaid traffic building strategies are just as effective as paid ones so let's start here.
Be aware that someone may try to sell you a tool or resource that they say will be a shortcut to internet
riches.
Avoid get rich quick scams and concentrate on building unique, high quality content. You’ll get listed on the
search engines faster and stay there longer if you give your visitor a reason to recommend and keep coming back to
your site.
Buzz Marketing
Buzz marketing, aka Web 2.0 or social media includes such
things as blogs, RSS feeds, community sites like Facebook and the most popular right now, Twitter. It's an
extremely important part of your internet marketing strategy.
The idea is to create "buzz" about your product or service within the online community. As the "buzz" spreads,
you'll see traffic increasing to your site to see what all the fuss is about.
Article Marketing
Writing ezine articles is a technique that is used by many internet marketers to promote their
sites online. Article directories exist where you write an article about a topic within your niche
and allow people to use it on their websites. However, they must keep your name and website on the article so that
people can click on it and reach your website through that link.
It amounts to a free advertisement for your site because if the article is good and piques the reader’s
interest, they will likely click on your link for more information.
Forum Posting
Find a good forum in your niche that’s friendly to newcomers and then add quality responses to
postings on there.
Most forums have a profile page that you can personalize with links to your website. Or you can make a "sig
file" (signature file) that includes your website’s url. If you pique people’s interest with your reply or
submission to the forum, they’ll click on your link. This kind of link keeps on giving because it’s there for many
people to see long after you’ve forgotten about it.
Tips: Don’t just post on forums for the sake of posting. Add value to the forum and
people will likely click to your site. Post a reply that doesn’t add value and people will ignore you.
To find forums in your niche, simply type your niche + forums in the search engine box.
Directories
Directories are lists of websites that are categorized according to a specific niche.
Submitting your url to a directory can increase website traffic because these types of websites have a good page
rank and are highly regarded by search engines for that reason.
The Open Directory Project (DMOZ) is one of the most highly regarded by the major search engines because it’s
the largest directory on the web compiled by humans . Search engines, particularly Google, give sites that have
humans rating and ranking websites a lot of credibility.
Most of the entries that are approved to be on DMOZ are non-commercial in nature so you have to be very careful
to have much more content that commercialization on your site in order to get listed.
Don’t forget about smaller directories for specific niches.
Submitting your website to directories will definitely increase website traffic but it's a time-consuming
process. Set aside a few minutes every day to find new directories and submit your url to them.
